Keswick Victorian Christmas Fayre

  • The Keswick Traditional Christmas Fayre will take place on Sunday 5th December 2010.

With lots of decorated charity stalls and a host of street entertainment the Fayre marks the start of the Festive season in Keswick. With the Christmas tree and shops festooned with colourful lights, and equally colourful local characters providing entertainment the event is an occasion not to be missed.

Keswick Victorian Fayre, as it was previously know, first began in 1988 and since that time has taken place on the first Sunday in December. Organised by representatives from Keswick Lions Club, Keswick and Bassenthwaite Rotary Clubs, Keswick Inner Wheel and other local volunteers, the Fayre provides stalls for local organisations and charities to raise funds for their own specific good causes. None of the stalls are commercial and the event itself is run on a non-profit making basis. Stalls are only available for charities and for good causes such as local Schools, Scouts, Guides etc. Entertainment is provided throughout the day and there is also a small funfair for young children and a Santa’s Grotto.

TV’s newest celebrity chef, Peter Sidwell, celebrates some of the best British eating on a culinary adventure in the Lake District. He knows a thing or two about Great British food, as he’s been using the finest local produce from around the Lake District in his café and cookery school, in Cumbria for years. Now he’s showing us all how to cook really good food at home.

Each day, Peter’s culinary tour takes him to a different part of the Lakes where he meets producers – making fantastic ingredients and taking their freshly crafted produce away to use in his own kitchen.

Against the backdrop of England’s most stunning scenery, Peter visits the birthplace of legendary foods like Kendal Mint Cake, Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding and Cumberland Sausage.

Back home, Peter cooks up delicious, simple to follow recipes using food from his new friends and some he’s foraged on his rambles in the countryside.

Join him on his delicious mission to discover the joys of eating the Lakes on a Plate.

Charity ball at Lodore Falls Hotel raises thousands ….

The ‘Night with the Stars’ Charity Ball held at the Lodore Falls Hotel on Friday Night (15th October) was  a great success, raising over £3,000 for charity.

It was great to see so many local people get into the swing of the event, with sequins, beads, diamante  and diamonds adding a great deal of sparkle.  The paparazzi were there, clicking cameras and rolling with TV film – and we were also delighted to see Cumbria Life Photographer Jenny Woolgar taking pictures of local guests.

Giving their support at the event were the ‘Borrowdale Boys” – local farmers who produce so many of the great ingredients used in local dishes.

The glamorous six course dinner was created by Head Chef Mike Ward. He themed each course around Hollywood stars and included ‘Elvis’ Love me tender – a  mouth-watering trio of beef lamb and pork fillet medallions.

Thanks to everyone who took part, buying raffle tickets and bidding in the auction to increase our charity funds for Keswick Mountain Rescue and North West Air Ambulance.

This is just one in a series of events planned at the Lodore Falls Hotel in Borrowdale. Coming up shortly is a Nutcracker Afternoon Tea with ballet performance and Cinderella pantomime just before Christmas.
