Meet a Meerkat this Easter at Trotters World of Animals!
Looking for something different to do this Easter?
Interaction at Trotters World of Animals is set to increase in time for the Easter holidays. As well as being able to see traditional baby animals, visitors can also be treated to personal encounters with some of the parks favourite animals with the launch of two new “Experience the Wild” activities – a Junior Keeper Experience and Meet the Meerkats. There are now 4 “Experience the Wild” activities on offer:
- Junior Keeper Experience
- Meet the Meerkats
- Lemur Encounter
- Hawk Walk
The hour long Junior Keeper Experience sees youngsters aged 8-14 spending time grooming the Tapirs, preparing enrichment toys and feeding the Lemurs as well as the chance to work alongside the keepers. It is the first experience to be aimed purely at children. Park Manager Richard Robinson said “The Tapirs are very gentle creatures and the lemurs are very intriguing so we are looking forward to seeing children being able to create some very special memories.”
The ‘Meet the Meerkats’ experience was created when the ever expanding Meerkat family needed room to grow. During the winter months, staff enlarged their enclosure to prepare for this new visitor experience. Proud Meerkat parents Dave and Judy have been breeding since they were introduced to each other in 2010 and they have had several litters of pups. Today there are 14 members of the ‘mob’ who are very inquisitive and very spritely.
Both of these ‘Experience the Wild’ activities have sparked the interest of visitors, with several encounters already pre-booked for the Easter holiday.
Richard Robinson, Park Manager said “The Meerkats are a firm favourite with families. They are quick, curious and guests will watch them for hours. When they outgrew their current home we took the opportunity to create a larger area that would give us enough space to let our guests meet them ‘in person’. They are excitable, but their nosy nature means they do come and say hello. At the moment this experience is only for adults, but once established, we hope to let children enjoy the experience too. ”
Under the “Experience the Wild” banner, the Hawk Walks and Lemur Encounters were launched two years ago and have grown in popularity as present ideas for Mothers Day, Fathers Day and as unique Christmas presents. The new Junior Keeper experience is the first to be specifically aimed at children. Each of the four Experience the Wild activities lasts an hour and costs £30 and pre-booking is essential.
