The Starkey School of Theatre Dance herald the start of the Lodore Falls Christmas events

Coppélia the ballet at the Lodore Falls Hotel

Back by popular demand, the Starkey School of Theatre Dance will once again herald the start of the Christmas events at the Lodore Falls Hotel, with their performance of the classic comic ballet Coppélia on Sunday 22nd November. This will be the 6th year that the school has performed at the Lodore Falls Hotel, with the first three year’s performance, the ‘Nutcracker’ and the following two years ‘Swan Lake’. The shortened version of the ballet will be performed by over 30 talented young dancers, aged between 9 – 24, followed by a themed afternoon tea, where guests can relax and enjoy the Winter Wonderland decorations and the stunning views across Derwentwater.

Coppélia is an enchanting, family ballet, perfect for young and old alike. The performance features Swanilda, who is engaged to Franz but has his eye on the mysterious girl sitting on the balcony of Dr Coppélius’s house. Franz doesn’t realise that she is a doll whom the toymaker is trying to bring to life and when Swanilda and her friends sneak into the doctor’s workshop it looks as though he has succeeded. Love triumphs over all in this comedy of mistaken identity and the finale is a joyful celebration of the lovers’ wedding.

Matt Collins, Manager at the Lodore Falls Hotel commented “It’s wonderful to have the Starkey School of Theatre Dance back to perform at the Lodore Falls Hotel, the Nutcracker and Swan Lake have both been popular events over the past 5 years, we’re all looking forward to watching the group perform Coppélia. The performance is made up of a mixed aged group of boys and girls and I really take my hat off to them as it’s a difficult task to perform ballet on a carpeted area, yet they make it look very easy.”

The ballet performances at the Lodore Falls Hotel are due to take place on November 22nd and December 6th. For more information contact Lynsey Clark on 017687 77285 or visit www.lakedistricthotels.net/lodorefalls
