At the start of the year, our stunning Inn on the Lake hotel located on the shores of Ullswater underwent a supreme makeover that truly transported the hotel well into the 21st century.
The refurbishment project recently came to a completion, and we are extremely proud to reveal the luxurious design details of this transformative overhaul. The exciting renovations included the majority of the ground floor, including:

Memories begin at the Inn…
Since the Inn on the Lake became a member of the Lake District Hotels family back in 2000, it has undergone a number of refurbishments, which have each enhanced our reputation and established the Inn’s place as a leading Lake District Hotel.
Over the years, the Inn on the Lake has become ‘the place to be’ among couples, walkers and dog-owners with its immediate views out onto Ullswater Lake and the abundance of scenic rambles available from the hotel doorstep.
Unsurprisingly, the hotel has also become the Lake District wedding venue of the century, with engaged couples from all over the UK flocking to the welcoming atmosphere of the hotel just to say ‘I do’ against the hotel’s breathtaking backdrop.
The making of a masterpiece
To make this contemporary vision a reality, our company Directors, Kit Graves and Dani Hope enlisted the help of some of the UK’s greatest interior designers, whose imagination and skills have further heightened the hotel’s sophisticated style, while simultaneously enhancing guest experience.
The overall ambience of the hotel’s new look is bright and airy, reflected through its elegant light fixtures and bespoke chandeliers, with some guests commenting that the hotel now parallels some of the swankiest establishments in London.
The Lake View Bar on the other hand, has been transformed into a chic cocktail bar with a touch of glamour, featuring a bespoke Chesterfield filling the length of the wall which guests can sink into with their evening cocktail to enjoy the beautiful atmospheric lighting and our famous unrivalled views of the lake and fells.
From the entrance, guests are greeted with floor to ceiling windows that fills the reception with natural light. As you step foot through the electric doors, vintage maps from the early 1900’s line the walls highlighting the local area.
Once inside, the handmade geometric glass tiled reception desk with local granite top dominates the lobby, with comfortable, upholstered seating areas complete with custom-made cushions for guests to relax.
Blush, heather and cream colours flow throughout the Lake View Restaurant alongside metallic silver embroidered curtains to provide a fresh, contemporary feel, while the Orangery and Lake View Lounges reflect burnt orange tones, accompanied by contrasting fabrics.
“Throughout the refurbishment project we have used local contractors, joiners and stone masons as much as possible. We have also worked hard to keep a low carbon footprint; we have reupholstered furniture wherever possible; LED lighting has been installed throughout, we have also sourced low VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) lacquers and paints.
