Lake District Hotels Opens Inn on the Square – a Four Star First for Keswick

Inn on the Square, Keswick's NEW Hotel

Lake District Hotels are over the moon to have now opened our new hotel on Friday 12th June, in the charming market town of Keswick.  Formerly known as The Queen’s Hotel, the property has been completely renovated combining strong elements of Scandinavian design with a love of all things Cumbrian.

Inn on the Square, designed for laid-back luxury escapes with a hint of urban-cool, in the heart of the Lake District, has 34 modern bedrooms, a chic lounge bar and the Lake District’s first dedicated Steakhouse – Brossen.

With relaxation top of the agenda, guests can chose from two different room types: Herdwick and Town View.   The Herdwick rooms feature one wall dedicated to the Lake District’s famous breed of sheep bringing a flavour of the the outside, in.  The Town View rooms face onto the pretty town square outside with views of the beautiful countryside in the background. Perfect for romantic weekenders, fresh-air seeking walkers or simply fans of the beautiful Lake District, this new hotel is set to be the first 4-star property in Keswick.

The handy central Keswick location provides guests with a wealth of activities on their doorstep, from a classic boat trip on Lake Derwentwater, to an exhilarating clamber across Via Ferrata on the side of Fleetwith Pike, a 20 minute drive from town. The independent shops of Keswick, popular weekly market, the famous Pencil Museum and the brand new ice climbing centre are just a few hundred metres from the hotel.  The Theatre by the Lake or the 100-year old cinema in town provide a spot of culture in the evenings.

Daniella Hope, marketing director at Inn on the Square said: “We wanted the design of Inn on the Square to be completely different to anywhere else in the area. We were inspired by many trips to visit our family in Copenhagen as well as the icons which sit on our doorstep such as our favourite Herdy sheep. It is important that the hotel evokes a strong sense of place where our guests can unwind and soak up the atmosphere of the Lakes with a modern twist.”

Opening at the same time is the hotel’s new restaurant, Brossen, the Lake District’s first dedicated steakhouse.  The meat is sourced locally from nearby farms and the menu includes a mixture of classic cuts,  rib of beef to share, as well as more unusual dishes such as oak smoked rib-eye steak – all paired with an excellent wine list.  The new head chef, brings with him a wealth of experience having come from a family of butchers.  He formerly worked as sous chef at several award winning restaurants in Cumbria.

All seven of the Lake District Hotels welcome guests’ four- legged friends of the canine variety to stay, and the dog-friendly staff are always on hand to recommend the best walks and dog friendly pubs and restaurants in the area.
