We are delighted to introduce Mark Harris, the new Head Chef at the award-winning 2 AA Rosette Inn on the Lake in Ullswater. Mark has been part of our team since February and has put his own spin on the menu, by introducing new creative and inspirational dishes. A few new favourites on the A la Carte menu to try are West Coast White Crab with daikon radish, cucumber, caviar and young shoots; or for dessert, Mark’s Chocolate Dome with tapioca, mocha mousse, peanut butter crumb is to die for.
Mark is an extremely professional and accomplished chef who has worked in some of the world’s finest hotels and restaurants, including the 2* Michelin La Gavroche, 1 Michelin star Capital Hotel in London, Le-Meridien Hotel in Brussels and Seegar’s in Atlanta. More recently Mark returned to North Yorkshire where he made his mark with one of the regions favourite restaurants gaining them 2 rosettes. Mark says his driving force and biggest influence throughout his career has come from his family, and from a few of his favourite chef’s, such as; Pierre Gagnaire and Tom Kitchen.
Outside of work, Mark can be found cycling and training for triathlon’s, his love of the outdoors and the Lakes was one of the attractions for the Head Chef position at the Inn on the Lake, Mark says, “the location and the fact that the hotel is family run really appealed to me, I prefer a more personal hands on approach, the staff and management here are charming and the standard of hospitality is outstanding”.

The Inn on the Lake became part of Lake District Hotels Ltd in 2000, since then the hotel has undergone a complete refurbishment and constant upgrading, keeping the hotel a favourite with visitors. In 2012 the Inn on the Lake achieved a four star status and two AA Rosettes for the Lake View restaurant, as recognition for continued high quality and investment.
