The Lo‘door’s are open down the Borrowdale Valley

The Lodore Falls Gingerbread House

The Lodore Falls Hotel and Borrowdale Hotel in the Borrowdale Valley reopened their doors on Thursday 10th December after negotiating the aftermath of storm Desmond. The two hotels have maintained their festive cheer and have been welcoming locals and residents in to enjoy Christmas lunches, mulled wine and mince pies, party nights and overnight stays.

Matt Collins, General Manager of the Lodore Falls Hotel, said “it’s been lovely to see people enjoying themselves again after a dreadful week for many. people are really getting into the spirit of Christmas.”

Our Christmas elves, aka our chefs in the kitchens have been busy since early autumn preparing for the festive season including writing festive menus, brewing the mulled wine and feeding the Christmas cakes.

One chef in particular has been especially busy over the past few weeks, spending every spare moment producing his fabulous towering gingerbread house, which is a replica of the Lodore Falls Hotel. Every year Sous Chef Shane Hamiliton spends up to 12 hours on his gingerbread hotel, which features stained sugar windows and real working lights, all of which are edible (apart from the lights). The gingerbread house will be on display in the hotel from 17th December, ready to be smashed to pieces on New Year’s Day by the children that are staying at the hotel – a tradition firmly embedded in the Lodore Falls’ Hotel festive celebrations.

The hotels have also had a special visit each day from our VIP guest, Elf on the Shelf, and fans have been following his check-ins on the Lake District Hotels Facebook page. Here he is having a gander at the Keswick Reminder with Matt from the Lodore Falls Hotel. Follow his adventure each day and guess which hotel he is at next time!
