There is a special piece of art on display at the Lodore Falls Hotel – launched at the Cumbria Life Nutcracker luncheon today (Thursday 2nd December 2010).
Head Chef Mike Ward is renowned for his butter sculpture work and every year he produces a new creation. This year, in keeping with the Nutcracker theme he has created a Sugar Plum Fairy!!
Over 30 hours of loving care and attention have been put in to this piece of art. The delicate ballerina has a pale pink skirt which was created using the edible food glitter. To achieve this look, Mike had to carefully mask the rest of the sculpture to ensure only the skirt and shoes turned pink.
During the Cumbria Life luncheon Mike talked about each dish he created and at the end he gave everyone vodka jellies – hand made in the kitchen that day. During coffee he also showed off his Sugar Plum fairy – and all were amazed to see how delicate she was when he walked away and her wings fluttered as he went by!
The fairy is on display at the hotel and will take pride of place on the New Years Eve gala dinner. This popular event still has a few places left – for more info contact the Lodore Falls Hotel on 017687 77285
