September Recipe of the Month 2012 – Rolled tenderloin of pork with celeriac puree and roast root vegetables

After the Inn on the Lake was awarded four stars and two rosettes by the AA we thought it was only right to let head chef Fraser Soutar pick our recipe of the month for September! Asked why he chose this particular recipe, Fraser explained that September is traditionally a harvesting month so there is a huge selection of fresh seasonal vegetables available. More

The pie has no limits at the Kings Arms …

Famous for our pies, you will always find the menu includes one with Beef and Ale. Made using local ale and local beef it is a hearty supper fit for a king. There are seasonal pies too – and this spring you might try a sweet rhubarb pie or chicken and asparagus pie, or even one with Herdwick mutton. Much maligned in the past, TV chefs like James Martin and Matt Tebbutt have been promoting this melt in the mouth meat – they cooked it in tagines on the BBC2 Great British Food Revival.

Keswick is set in the heart of Herdwick country so a mutton dish is a must! Pay us a visit and try one.

The Lake District is the perfect playground for the summer holidays

Whatever type of holiday you are looking for, the Lake District has stunning views and something for everyone; action and adventure, peace and tranquillity or the perfect place for a family holiday.

There’s no shortage of things to do in the Lake District – it is after all, the Adventure Capital of the UK – with activities like hiking, biking canoeing and climbing.  There are over 100 different activity centres to choose from – plenty to keep the energetic out of mischief.

Hotels like the Inn on the Lake at Glenridding, sit on the shore of Lake Ullswater and is just seconds from the Ullswater Steamer and the sailing centre.  With large garden terraces and lawns to the waters edge, it is also the perfect place to relax at the end of the day with a wonderful afternoon tea.

The Inn on the Lake also has perfect views from their Lake View bedrooms – four of which have been extended to create stunning balcony bedrooms. The 180 degree view of Ullswater and the surrounding mountains is very dramatic. The table and chairs allow you to enjoy breakfast on a warm sunny day or a romantic sunset drink before dinner. Popular for romantic breaks, the hotel is just waiting for the first balcony proposal!
