Fashion show and lunch at Inn on the Lake

Ladies who lunched at last year’s fashion show at Inn on the Lake will know just what a fun afternoon this is! We are lucky that Hilary Cookson wants to come back again with her latest collections and tales of a travelling suitcase. Hilary took over from her Mum Maureen and has extended the range at the Maureen Cookson shop. Renowned for mother of the bride and smart outfits, it is set to be a colourful and elegant show. The next big event is 14th September at Inn on the Lake- £29.95 for lunch and fashion from Maureen Cookson. Table of ten – get one place free. Lakeside lunch with Cumbria Life

The Inn on the Lake at Glenridding hosted a Lakeside Luncheon for Cumbria Life earlier this month. The weather was glorious and the cherry trees were in full bloom, welcoming guests as they arrive.

It was a fantastic opportunity for Head Chef Frazer Souter to produce a wonderful Lakeland lunch for these discerning diners. It was great to see people come to the lunch from far and wide – a couple travelled from north of Stirling to stay in the Lakes and attend the luncheon – they loved it and plan to return again to stay at the Inn on the Lake.

Richard Eccles – Editor of Cumbria Life concluded “I can’t think of a better dining room view.”

The menu was accompanied by a different wine with each course, carefully selected by Stephen Wilcock, Master Sommelier for the Lake District Hotel Group and himself, General Manager of the Borrowdale Hotel.

Head Chef Frazer began by saying “We are fortunate to live in the breadbasket of England with so many free range meats and locally grown produce. We are now also landing seafood locally – catching it before it goes abroad.”

Duck egg with Grilled asparagus – eggs from Carlisle and the freshest new season asparagus – two weeks early this year.  The other starter was Crab croquettes – locally caught and beautifully presented.

Main course of spring lamb was accompanied by the most delicious aubergine, tomato and goats cheese tian – I have never before had goats cheese with lamb – but it woks very well.

Frazer told us that there are over 15 different breeds of lamb farmed in the Lake District – this was certainly a very tasty one.

Fish lovers enjoyed the Sea Bream – caught from the Irish seas and landed at Millom.

Dessert was also delightful – a warm rhubarb and ginger crumble melted in the mouth and was followed by home made chocolates and coffee.

On September 14th, the  Inn on the Lake will be playing host to a luncheon and fashion show from Maureen Cookson at Whalley.  Last year tickets for this event sold very quickly – especially with an offer of a free place when you book a table of ten! Lodore Falls Hotel is transformed into a Russian Nutcracker Fairytale …

Interior Floral Designers transform Lodore Falls Hotel into a Russian Nutcracker Fairytale

Tricia Irving, Interior Floral Designer for Lake District Hotels, has been working towards the creation of a fairytale at the Lodore Falls Hotel for almost a year. The Nutcracker Ballet theme has been on her mind for months, gathering ideas and material to turn the hotel into a Russian Fantasy fairytale.

This week Tricia and assistant Sheila Beattie have been busy creating the Russian Fairytale – with glass ballerinas, the palest of pink baubles and decorations covering some of the seventy plus Christmas trees. They have also been hard at work sewing on sequins to tutu’s and ballet shoes to create that magical Nutcracker Ballet feel when you enter the hotel.

Bedecked in the finest of décor, the hotel continues the magical Russian Nutcracker Ballet theme with Russian dishes included on the festive menu. A chance to try something new

A real treat for anyone looking for a fairytale Christmas.

Keswick Victorian Christmas Fayre

  • The Keswick Traditional Christmas Fayre will take place on Sunday 5th December 2010.

With lots of decorated charity stalls and a host of street entertainment the Fayre marks the start of the Festive season in Keswick. With the Christmas tree and shops festooned with colourful lights, and equally colourful local characters providing entertainment the event is an occasion not to be missed.

Keswick Victorian Fayre, as it was previously know, first began in 1988 and since that time has taken place on the first Sunday in December. Organised by representatives from Keswick Lions Club, Keswick and Bassenthwaite Rotary Clubs, Keswick Inner Wheel and other local volunteers, the Fayre provides stalls for local organisations and charities to raise funds for their own specific good causes. None of the stalls are commercial and the event itself is run on a non-profit making basis. Stalls are only available for charities and for good causes such as local Schools, Scouts, Guides etc. Entertainment is provided throughout the day and there is also a small funfair for young children and a Santa’s Grotto.
