A fantastic festive response for Christmas 2011 …

Last Christmas and New Year were very special in our hotels -snow capped fells, warm cosy fires, a festival of food and entertainment ensured our guests had a memorable break.

Indeed, they felt so at home, relaxed and pampered that many have already rebooked for Christmas and New Year 2011. That’s something we are very proud of – it means we created the right festive programme – something we are repeating this year.

So let us tempt you to the Lake District this Christmas. There’s plenty of sparkle in our festive breaks: mulled wine, mince pies, festive feasts, dancing, lake cruises and entertainers – plus our secret ingredients guaranteed to make your festive break extra special. Come and join us for the festive season, but please don’t leave it too late to book – some of our hotels genuinely have limited availability. Call us today for a brochure or download it from our website.

Guests already set to return for the 2011 festive season …

The Borrowdale Hotel was full for Christmas and New Year and there were a lot of people calling in for lunch and afternoon tea in between. Stephen Wilcock General manager also said “we have had a record number of guests rebooking for Christmas and New Year already.”

The Lodore Falls Hotel was also packed for Christmas and celebrating the start of the new year – there were over 180 people celebrating New Years eve and on New Years Day 220 people attended the annual Jazz brunch.

Celebrating New Year in town saw the Skiddaw Hotel packed with locals and the Kings Arms was full of enthusiastic walkers on bed and breakfast breaks.

Kit Graves, Director of the Lake District Hotel Group said “We pride ourselves on fantastic hospitality and that’s why people come back time and time again. Our hotels all enjoy a very loyal following and we are especially pleased to see so many people making repeat bookings for Christmas and New Year 2011.”

Smashing time at gala New Year dinner …

The lifelike gingerbread hotel on display at the Lodore Falls Hotel was smashed to pieces on New Years Day and creator, Shane Hamilton, Senior Sous Chef was delighted. It has become a tradition that on the night of New Years Day, guests at the gala dinner watch the children smash the gingerbread house to pieces. It is just one of the creative artwork pieces on display – sitting along side fantastic butter carvings created by the chefs at the hotel.

General Manager Stephen Johnson said  “The children get so excited and use a rolling pin supplied by the chef to wreak havoc on the gingerbread house. Shane has done a fantastic job this year with sugar plane windows and intricate detail of the hotel there were even fairy lights. It always seems a shame to smash it but every year, Shane comes up with something even better.”

Children have a ball at the Cinderella panto …

What fantastic fun at the Lodore Falls Hotel in Borrowdale on Tuesday afternoon as 170 visitors packed the Garden Rooms for the Christmas panto – Cinderella. With beautiful ballet dresses decking the halls, the scene was quite magical for the children and parents. With cushions scattered on the floor at the front of th4 stage, there were over 80 children screaming and shouting with laughter at Buttons and the ugly sisters.

The interval was timed to perfection, with food and drinks pre-ordered before the performance giving time for the youngsters to refuel before the second half of the show. As the performance came to an end, the children got closer and closer and closer to the actors – totally involved in what was happening and leaving Mums and Grandparents just as spellbound watching their little ones.

“The best panto we’ve seen this year” agreed several local families who had travelled to see others in the area. So much effort from Chaplin’s – the professional troupe who performed for us – a huge thanks to them. One thing is for sure, with almost double attendance on last years first ever panto, we are certainly going to make this an annual event. Roll on next Christmas.
