Wimbledon is almost upon us, and The Borrowdale Hotel have come up with a Wimbledon afternoon tea to kick start the oldest tennis tournament in the world. Served on a table cloth of artificial grass, the afternoon tea includes themed items, such as; Pimm’s jelly, lashings of strawberries and cream, a homemade pistachio mousse for the tennis ball, and homemade shortbread biscuits the shape of tennis rackets.
Jim Murray, General Manager came up with the idea, and worked with the pastry chef, Amelia Balogh to let her creativity take over. John Lee, head gardener also played a critical part in the set-up, pulling out his sheers and lawn mower to cut the artificial grass; throughout the tournament you’ll be able to spot John around the hotel maintaining the correct height of the grass at exactly 8mm.
Jim commented, “I wanted to do something a little different for Wimbledon this year, from your usual strawberries and cream specials. Our themed afternoon tea adds a little bit of quirkiness and fun to the Borrowdale Hotel, it also tastes really good.”
This themed Wimbledon afternoon tea is £16.50 and is available daily at the Borrowdale Hotel from the 3rd – 16th July, 12pm-5pm
