Step back in time at the Borrowdale Hotel

Victorian Weekend at the Borrowdale Hotel

This November the Borrowdale Hotel will be stepping back in time by holding a Victorian weekend celebration… and we’d like to invite you to join us! Stay for two nights on Friday 14th & Saturday 15th November and experience a taste of what life was like over 140 years ago!

As the Borrowdale Hotel was built in the Victorian area in 1866 and was one of the first coaching inns in the Borrowdale valley, it provides the perfect venue to host such an event. The hotel has undergone a complete refurbishment over the last few years, however it has managed to retain it’s old world charm and interesting history.

To kick start the weekend there will be pre-dinner marshmallow toasting and hot punch available on the Friday afternoon, with a delicious 3 course dinner in the evening. While the following day see’s the start of the Victorian celebration with a Victorian afternoon tea, where you can enjoy delights such as; smoked salmon pinwheels, chocolate dipped éclairs and madeleines and much more!

As the evening approaches guests are encouraged to dress for dinner in Victorian era clothing, to indulge in a 4 course Victorian themed dinner. Dressing for dinner in the Victorian era was a grand affair and while Victorian dress is optional, our staff will be looking rather dapper in their Victorian costumes!

The 4 course themed dinner has been specially created by Head Chef Graham Ball who has tried to replicate Victorian dishes wherever possible! Dishes featuring on the menu include starters of pan roasted Pigeon breast with shallot puree and a red cabbage gel. For main course; Oven Roasted Boneless Quails, chasseur sauce or medallion of beef rossine with turned mushrooms and madeira jus. Full menu detailed below.

Following dinner, guests can retire to the bar lounge where parlour games with prizes can be enjoyed by all. During the Victorian era parlour games were a popular form of entertainment among the upper and middle class and they were often played in a parlour… hence the name. ‘Tiddlywinks’ ‘Charades’ and ‘The Sculptor’ are a few of the parlour games that you expect to find at the Borrowdale Hotel’s Victorian weekend.

Luckily for you the fun and games don’t end here… before you leave the hotel on the Sunday you can book a private 20 minute palm reading session (must be pre-booked a week before the event, £25 per person extra)

Our two night Victorian Weekend starts from £190pp
