Christmas Eve
Make this a Christmas to remember. Arrive at
the hotel in the afternoon and be welcomed by the lovely aroma of mulled wine and mince pies being served in the lounges in front of the roaring fires.
Later on we gather in the lounge bar for a pre-dinner Champagne and canapés reception and meet the hotel’s General Manager and his team, as he takes the opportunity to tell you about the coming days events and entertainment.
The Borrowdale Carol singers will visit us during the early evening to get us in the Christmas mood. Then make your way into the restaurant where an exquisite and creative Gala dinner will be prepared by our Head Chef and his team.
Later in the evening, enjoy a glass of hot punch and roasted chestnuts round the garden chimenea as you experience the peace and tranquillity of the Lake District at night.
Christmas Day
Breakfast on Christmas morning is a leisurely affair. Start your day with a traditional Cumbrian breakfast and why not add a bit of sparkle with a glass of Bucks Fizz. Relax and enjoy your morning before taking a stroll to the lake or visit our sister hotel’s leisure club (500 yards) for a swim in the indoor pool. Whatever you decide to do you are guaranteed to be surrounded by the beauty and seasonal peace of Borrowdale Valley in winter.
After the Lakeland air has stimulated your appetite it will be time to meet in the lounges, where orders will be taken for a sumptuous Christmas Day Lunch. Make sure you leave room for coffee and mince pies and then settle down for the Queen’s speech at 3pm. In the evening the bar is open for pre-dinner drinks and the fabulous Taste of the Lakes and Fells buffet will be served, providing a perfect opportunity for you to taste some traditional Cumbrian specialities and delicacies. With relaxation in mind we have prepared a fun Christmas Quiz to round off the day.
Boxing Day
A true Cumbrian breakfast will be served to get you going for the day ahead. Weather permitting, a guided walk will set off from the hotel shortly after breakfast. Suitable clothing and footwear are advisable.
Wrap up warm if you wish to enjoy a cruise on Lake Derwentwater and experience the ‘Lady of the Lakes’ aboard one of the comfortable launches, whilst taking in the breathtaking scenery.
Afternoon tea and cream scones will be served in the afternoon while you enjoy entertainment from a local story teller. Soon it will be time to change and get ready for the magnificent Boxing Day dinner which is followed by dancing in the Lounge Bar function room.
