Christmas Eve 2011
Make this a Christmas to remember. Arrive at the hotel in the
afternoon and be welcomed by the lovely aroma of mulled wine and mince pies being served in the lounges in front of the roaring fires. Later on we gather in the Lounge Bar for a pre-dinner Champagne and Canapés Reception and meet the hotel’s General Manager and his team, as he takes the opportunity to inform you of the coming days events and entertainment. Our resident musician will be playing your favourite Christmas music and the Borrowdale Carol singers will visit us during the evening.
In the Christmas mood gather in the restaurant where an exquisite
and creative Gala Dinner will be prepared by our Head Chef and his team. For those of you who would like a bit of fresh air after dinner, we have arranged a short magical torchlight walk to a beauty spot, where you will be served hot punch and roasted chestnuts. With just the lights from our lanterns and the fire, the lake and the surrounding mountains you will soon feel as if you are in Winter Wonderland.
Christmas Day 2011
Breakfast on Christmas morning is a leisurely affair. Start your day
with a traditional hearty Cumbrian breakfast and why not add a bit of sparkle with a glass of Bucks Fizz. Perhaps Santa will still be about! Relax and enjoy your morning as you please. You could perhaps take a stroll to the lake and feed the ducks or visit our sister hotel’s leisure club (500 yards) for a swim in the indoor pool. Whatever you decide to do you are guaranteed to be surrounded by the beauty and seasonal peace of Borrowdale Valley in winter.
After the Lakeland air has stimulated your appetite it will be time to
meet in the lounges, where orders will be taken for a sumptuous
Christmas Day Lunch. Make sure you leave room for coffee and
mince pies and then settle down for the Queen’s speech at 3pm. In
the evening the bar is open for pre-dinner drinks and the fabulous
Taste of the Lakes and Fells buffet will be served, providing a perfect opportunity for you to taste some traditional Cumbrian specialities and delicacies on which our Head Chef is an expert. With relaxation in mind we have prepared a fun Christmas Quiz to round off the day. With trivia to test everyone, it is guaranteed to be an entertaining evening.
Boxing Day 2011
A true Cumbrian breakfast will be served to get you going for the day ahead. Wrap up warm if you wish to enjoy a cruise on Lake Derwentwater and experience the ‘Lady of the Lakes’ aboard one
of the comfortable launches, whilst taking in the breathtaking scenery.
For the more energetic a guided walk will set off from the hotel shortly after breakfast. Suitable clothing and footwear are advisable. Afternoon tea and cream scones will be served in the afternoon.
Soon it will be time to change and get ready for the magnificient farewell dinner which is followed by light entertainment in the Lounge Bar function room.
