Four lakes, valleys, mountains
and many hills will be visited and
admired en route, your bed for the night will be in luxurious
accommodation in both 3 and 4 star hotels, and since walking
is a good way of building up an appetite delicious food plays
a
big part in this holiday. Please read on...
Each day you will start with a tasty hot or cold Cumbrian
breakfast and then the tour guide will take you on an exhilarating
walk along the shores of the lakes and onto the fells.
At Midday we stop for a lunch break consisting
of an impressive picnic set out by a member of staff in a
stunning location. Complimentary wine is an alternative option
to the hot and cold drinks on offer.
After lunch we continue to our final destination
of the day, and here you will fi nd your luggage waiting for
you in your room, so you can simply relax for the rest of
the day with either a book or perhaps a visit to the hotel's
leisure spa (not available at the Skiddaw Hotel).
In the evening enjoy some local culinary
delights with complimentary wine and perhaps a night cap at
the bar before you fall into your comfortable bed.
We have added in some little extras to make
your trip even more special enjoy some local history
and attractions,
afternoon cream tea and perhaps an apres-walk drink!
From beginners to experienced, this walking
holiday will suit all (but is generally not too strenuous)
if you get tired, it may be possible to be picked up
by private transport, which will take you to your destination.
ITINERARY
(may be changed without prior warning, depending on weather
conditions)
Sunday Day 1
Arrive at the 4 star Armathwaite Hall Hotel during Sunday
afternoon and enjoy a welcome drink in the Cocktail Bar, where
your host for the next 4 days will be introduced and talk
about the programme in more detail.
Monday Day 2
After breakfast we head off for Keswick along the
Allerdale Ramble
stopping at picturesque St. Bega's Church and later on a short
tour of Mire House a privately owned stately home. Carry
on past Dodd Wood arriving at the Osprey Viewing Point where
lunch awaits. Keswick will be reached in time for a spot of
afternoon tea.
Tuesday Day 3
Setting off from the Skiddaw Hotel we walk towards Portinscale,
Cat Bells and Brandelhow. Lunch will be served near the small
and pretty village of Grange from where we continue after
lunch towards Rosthwaite before we take the riverside walk
back along the shores of Derwentwater to our hostelry for
the night the 3 star Lodore Falls Hotel in Borrowdale Valley.
Wednesday Day 4
Today is the longest day, but if you wish you can stop after
lunch. We start from Lodore Falls Hotel and head towards Watendlath,
where we walk over the fells and drop into our picnic stop
on the shore of Thirlmere. For the more experienced walker
the tour continues over the lower slopes of Helvellyn and
fi nishes at the Inn on the Lake in Glenridding.
Thursday Day 5
We walk a few minutes to the Ullswater Steamer pier, where
we take the launch to Howtown. From this remote village we
take a gentle stroll along Ullswater back to Glenridding,
where lunch can be enjoyed in the comfortable lounge of the
Inn on the Lake. In the evening an absolute culinary delight
awaits, when the Lakeland Pudding Society has their monthly
meeting. A lovely 3 course dinner followed by 8 hot and cold
puddings a fi tting way to celebrate your achievements
over the last few days and to say
goodbye to new found friends.
Friday Day 6
The walking tour has come to an end, but if you wish to stay
a few more days, please book this with reception at the hotel
of your choice. Transport back to your car at Armathwaite
Hall Hotel will be arranged after breakfast.
