CHRISTMAS PROGRAMME 2009
Take a step back in time to that golden age of true hospitality, service and
comfort. We create the complete festive atmosphere for you to share with
family and friends both old and new.
Inside the hotel is adorned with beautiful traditional decorations, whilst
the thousands of Christmas lights and trees on the outside of the building
combined with our friendly staff and excellent food and drink will make you
feel welcome from the moment you arrive.
Christmas Eve
Make this a Christmas to remember. Arrive in time to settle into your warm and welcoming room
and perhaps explore the pretty market town of Keswick. During the afternoon mulled wine and
mince pies will be served in the lounge. Meet in the Lounge Bar for a pre-dinner Champagne and
Canapés Reception and meet the hotel’s General Manager and his team, as he takes the opportunity
to inform you of the coming days events and entertainment. Later in the evening please sit back and
relax and enjoy listening to our resident violinist playing your favourite Christmas carols – guaranteed
to put you in the Christmas mood.
In the Christmas mood gather in 31 The Square Restaurant where an exquisite and creative Gala
Dinner will be prepared by our Master Chef and his team. After dinner take a magical journey in a
candlelit procession down to the shores of Lake Derwentwater. Enjoy a glass of hot mulled wine and
hot roasted chestnuts as you experience the beauty, peace and tranquillity of the lake at night. (Warm
boots and jackets recommended). Don’t miss the ‘Keswick Churches Together’ Christmas concert in
the Market Square outside the hotel.
Christmas Day
Breakfast on Christmas morning is a leisurely affair. Start your day with a traditional hearty Cumbrian
breakfast and why not add a bit of sparkle with a glass of Bucks Fizz. Perhaps Santa will still be about!
Relax and enjoy your morning as you please. You could perhaps take a stroll to the lake and feed the
ducks or wander through the park along the banks of the river, whatever you decide to do you are
guaranteed to be surrounded by the beauty and seasonal peace of Keswick in winter.
After the Lakeland air has stimulated your appetite it will be time to meet in the Lounge Bar where
orders will be taken for a sumptuous Christmas Day Lunch. Make sure you leave room for coffee and
mince pies and then settle down for the Queen’s speech at 3pm. In the evening the bar is open for
pre-dinner drinks and the fabulous Taste of the Lakes and Fells buffet will be served, providing a perfect
opportunity for you to taste some traditional Cumbrian specialities and delicacies on which our Head
Chef, being a Cumbrian himself, is an expert. With relaxation in mind we have prepared a fun Christmas
Quiz to round off the day. With trivia to test everyone, it is guaranteed to be an entertaining evening.
Boxing Day
A true Cumbrian breakfast will be served to get you going for the day ahead. Wrap up warm if you
wish to enjoy a cruise on Lake Derwentwater and experience the ‘Lady of the Lakes’ aboard one
of the comfortable launches, whilst taking in the breathtaking scenery. For the more energetic, take
the launch to Ashness Bridge and walk to a surprise location where a picnic will await your arrival,
followed by a leisurely walk back to the hotel. Suitable clothing and footwear advised. We finish off
with a special night of entertainment to round off the 6-course farewell dinner.
