When I think of autumn weddings, all that goes through my mind is the soft, autumnal light through windswept hair, berry lips and lots & lots of beautiful, fiery leaves. It is safe to say that October is definitely my favourite month, and the Lake District is the perfect setting for your wedding at this time of year.
The drive to The Lodore Falls is magical, your guests will be astounded with the fully arched trees cascading their leaves over the Borrowdale road. Derwentwater is peaceful and Catbells is the perfect back drop to your day.
Autumn weddings mean subtle romance, elegant glamour and beauty inspired by Mother Nature herself. Decorate the room with apothecary jars filled with autumnal goodies like fallen leaves, cinnamon sticks and apples. Place them on wooden logs and scatter berries all around, splashing the tables with colour. The room will look fantastic and smell amazing! Keeping your colour scheme simple for most décor is the perfect excuse to throw golds, reds and oranges around the ceremony and wedding breakfast. Gold tea lights, orange pumpkins and red roses dotted about with give The Lodore Falls the earthy feel that is perfect for your autumn wedding.
Speaking of pumpkins, this is the season to get the biggest, tastiest pumpkins as well as the ripest, most crisp apples to use to satisfy your guests’ taste buds. How about a welcome drink of hot apple cider, a chance to warm those fingers and the tongue! As a wedding breakfast idea, starting with warm, comforting pumpkin soup would make any guest happy. Keeping it local, you could then serve roasted Cumbrian venison as your main, so rich and delicious, finishing with Tarte Tatin, straight from the oven served with copious amounts of Lakeland ice cream.
You can even tie in your guest book to the autumn theme, by having a finger print tree guest book instead. Using orange and red ink would make the tree represent the time of year and be a beautiful reminder of your wedding day. Having baskets of conkers next to your guest book would make sure any children at your wedding are kept occupied for a while, having conker fights and lots of fun. Let’s be honest, a few of the adults are bound to join in as well!
Lodore Falls can help with any part of your wedding day, from helping to decorate our function rooms to even making the cake! Why not think about having a naked cake, decorated with figs covered in gold leaf, deep red berries and lots begonias and roses. Or perhaps a dessert table would suit you and yours guests better? A decadent spread with warm fruit pies, scrumptious crumbles, rich tortes and zesty tarts. Just liaise with us here at Lodore to find the perfect mix of desserts.
Your guests, friends and family, will be sure to make a break of it when attending your wedding, booking an extra night’s stay just so they can wake up to the fresh, crisp autumn mornings. These months are so romantic there’s always a subtle feel of love in the air. Don’t forget that you and your guests will have reduced room rates when staying with us so make sure to your extend the celebrations!
