Creating Christmas in 21 days

It takes our Christmas Designer, Trish Irving 21 days to create Christmas across our seven Lake District Hotels, but that’s just hanging the decorations. The preparation starts in February as Trish spends almost a year preparing for Christmas, selecting new decorations and planning new colour schemes, as we like to change everything on a year to year basis, mindful that some 40%-50% of our guests are repeat.

Trish also makes many of the larger decorations herself, this year she has been busy creating swans, as the theme at the Lodore Falls Hotel is Swan Lake to tie in with their annual ballet performances.

In total Trish works with over 150 Christmas trees which she decorates with pretty lights, baubles and bows, plus over 300 character and festive ornaments, such as ballerinas, fairies, penguins, swans, reindeer’s, snowmen and polar bears, not to mention a North pole and sleigh that has been clamped at the George Hotel. Our hotels are well worth a visit just to see these stunning decorations.

Trish’s creativity doesn’t stop at Lodore Falls, at our sister hotel the Skiddaw, you’ll find a Winter Wonderland theme, with hand crated mini Christmas trains with penguins for drivers in the main entrance. Or head to the four-star Inn on the Lake to find penguins on swings in the entrance.

Trish said “Every year we introduce a new theme at one of the hotels, that way we keep the decorations fresh and interesting for our guests. We try our best not to lose any and individually wire every bauble to the trees, that way they are less likely to drop off or mysteriously disappear.” Once January 2018 comes, Trish will be attending Christmas fairs looking for ideas for new decorations.
