Whilst hospitality businesses across England were forced to close their doors again due to a second lockdown, one of our Lake District Hotels has been working hard behind the scenes to ensure that their festive season perseveres despite the coronavirus pandemic…
This week, the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa will reopen its doors on Thursday 3rd December and welcome back guests to revel at our twinkling Christmas displays and our legendary Gingerbread house which stands tall at the hotel entrance each year.
The magnificent Gingerbread house, which has once again been created by Head Chef, Shane Hamilton, has become somewhat of an annual tradition for the hotel, whereby locals and visitors alike travel far and wide to see it. The lifespan of the Gingerbread house comes to an end on New Year’s Day when it is smashed to pieces by the children staying in the hotel.
“This is the 16th year I’ve made the Christmas Gingerbread house which took a total of 4 days to make. Each year it gets bigger and better and I try make little changes so guests can have fun spotting new additions. This year, I’ve included the addition of a guest on one of the hotel balconies, but in light of current circumstances, he’s wearing a face mask. The recipe is one of my best kept secrets, however I can tell you that this year it took 12 kilograms of flour to create.” – Shane Hamilton, Head Chef at the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa
The company directors and all the different teams across the group felt that this year it’s more important than ever to spread Christmas cheer throughout the hotels, so families can enjoy the festive ambience and have some fond memories of 2020 to look back on. For this reason, it was so important to continue with the Gingerbread house tradition and make the Christmas decorations even more beautiful than ever before.
