For Tricia Irving, our Interior Floral Designer Christmas starts in February, with all the preparations of selecting new decorations and planning new colour schemes for the Lake District Hotel group. Each year Tricia and her assistants decorate all six of the hotels, with 2015 being a record year after the hotel group added their newest hotel, Inn on the Square to the decorating list, increasing the number of hotels to decorate to seven.
It took the three ladies 20 days to decorate all seven hotels, working day and night to create a winter wonderland in each hotel with a frozen themed fairytale at the Lodore Falls Hotel, Borrowdale and the George Hotel, Penrith. Her deadline to complete the decorations was Friday (13th November) – just in time for the towns Christmas light switch on, where BBC Children In Need were presenting live from Keswick.
In total Tricia worked with:
– 134 Christmas trees, pre-lit with up to 10,000 lights and 1000’s of baubles
– Over 1000 garlands
– 10 ballerina figures
– 8 Frozen characters
– 1000 festive ornaments, which include snowmen, penguins, reindeer’s, and much more.
That’s over 13,000 decorations to hang – excluding fresh floral displays!
Tricia said “Every year we introduce a new theme at all of our hotels, that way we keep the decorations fresh and interesting for our guests. This year the Lodore and George have the Frozen theme, with Elsa, Anna, Sven and Olaf featuring in both hotels, which are really popular with the children as well as the parents. This year we had the groups newly refurbished Inn on the Square to dress and I was really looking forward to it, we went for a Nordic blue theme which ties in nicely with the Directors background.”
Dani Hope, Marketing Director of Lake District Hotels Ltd said “We invest such a lot of time and energy into our Christmas decorations, our team of ladies work round the clock, to install hundreds of trees, thousands of baubles and millions of lights, and that doesn’t even include all the lovely feature displays. As well as decorating the inside of the hotels, the same amount of effort goes into our outside lights; in particular at our town centre hotels as we feel they really add to the towns own light display.
Christmas isn’t complete until you’ve seen all the fabulous Christmas decorations that adorn our 7 hotels. This year we wanted to make the most of our displays, by creating a magical Christmas Tree Tour for visitors to enjoy, which should hopefully get everyone into the festive spirit. Along the tour you can visit each hotel and enjoy a mulled wine or two and enter our competition, for a chance to win a Gin Afternoon Tea at the Inn on the Square!”
To take part in the tour you simply need to walk around the seven hotels at your leisure and view all the fabulous decorations. Take note of the questions for a chance to win an afternoon tea at the Inn on the Square! To enter visit www.lakedistricthotels.net/christmas-tree-tour
