The George Hotel, Penrith gains 2 AA Rosettes for their Devonshire Restaurant

The George Hotel, Penrith has been celebrating, as news fills the town of their latest achievement, of not one but two AA Rosette awards for their Devonshire Restaurant. The George Hotel was visited by the AA Inspector earlier this month and was praised for having a commendable history, as well as it’s hard working and dedicated team of management and staff, for providing a strong service and friendly guest experience.


2017 has been a fantastic year for the George Hotel and receiving this award is the icing on the cake. The quality of the dining experience that they provide is a testament to locally sourced ingredients, constantly evolving techniques and excellent hospitality. It’s not often you come across a three-star hotel with two Rosettes, we’re all really proud of what the team has achieved.

Kyle Phillips, Head Chef has worked at the George since 2013, working his way up the ranks from chef de partie, to Head Chef in Spring this year. Kyle’s vision was to bring the guest dining experience to the next level by developing the food and service, with the overall aim of making the George Hotel the first place in Penrith town centre to achieve an AA rosette.

The AA Inspector dined out on pan fried scallop, cauliflower puree, pork belly, granny smith apple to start, followed by a local main course of oven roasted rump of Lakeland lamb, sweet bread, braised red cabbage, shallot and pak choi. For dessert he enjoyed caramelised banana and white chocolate with vanilla ice cream, Nutella and peanut butter. Describing the overall dining experience as, “Impressive, with a number of dishes exceeding expectations, and a Two Rosette award achieved. The quality and provenance of ingredients impressed, so too the accuracy of cookery and marriage of flavours/ingredients, compliments to Kyle and the brigade.”

The George Hotel is now offering its guests the chance to find out why the AA inspector was so impressed, by offering a special celebratory 2 course lunch and glass of chilled Sauvignon Blanc for £21.95pp, served in the 2 AA Rosette Devonshire Restaurant from 12-2:30pm, Monday to Saturday. Available daily until 11th November.
