Helvellyn crowned Britain’s Favourite Walk

Who saw the new ITV programme on Tuesday… Britain’s Favourite Walks: Top 100 with Julia Bradbury? It was amazing to see that Helvellyn came number 1 on the list, showing  Julia in action, on the magnificent Helvellyn walk which starts from the beautiful village of Glenridding.

The programme highlighted Britain’s best walks, where the Lake District dominated the list of places we love to ramble with routes in Snowdonia and Yorkshire also making the top ten. The Lake District’s picturesque mountains in the northwest produce some of the most stunning views in Britain, so it’s fantastic that Helvellyn has been crowned Britain’s favourite walk, with Catbells following in fourth position.

Why not enjoy a stay in our Lake District Hotels and try Britains Favourite Walks for yourself (or to just simply enjoy the stunning scenery!). The Inn on the Lake in Glenridding is the perfect base for Helvellyn, and our two hotels on Derwentwater, the Lodore Falls and Borrowdale Hotel both have fantastic views of Catbells.

Whether you’re a keen hiker or a more relaxed rambler, we are a nation of walkers. And it seems nowhere sparks our love of a good stroll quite like the majestic Lake District. The picturesque mountains in the northwest, which are broken up by stunning lakes, produce some of the most stunning views in Britain and have dominated a poll of our favourite walks.

As seen on Julia’s website, The Outdoor Guide, Helvellyn is England’s third highest peak and is a walk for those with a decent level of fitness. This Wainwright route has rugged beauty and spectacular views from the summit. The infamous ‘Striding Edge’ is a ridge walk but other routes are available for the less adventurous. This route isn’t wheel chair friendly.

In the 2017 poll by ITV looking for Britain’s favourite walk, this route came 1st.
