What an absolute delight is in store for everyone at this year’s Keswick Live Advent Calendar! 24 days filled with live pop-up concerts, magical story telling; drama; talks, Christmas food and drink demonstrations, not to mention crafty workshops. As well as 24 beautifully illuminated windows which stay lit until 4th January 2016 to form a festive window trail to follow.
The 2nd Keswick Live Advent Calendar races off in paddling style, as befits Keswick’s Adventure Capital status, at midday on 1st December with a Santa Cruise – teams of Santa’s will race from Derwentwater foreshore around Derwent Isle. The winning Santa team will have the honour of switching on the first advent illuminated window at the Theatre by the Lake.
Every week has some lovely pop-up events and windows – including the Inn on the Square’s ‘Festive Cocktails’ demonstration on Sunday 13th December, or you can learn how to make a ‘Festive Floral Centre Piece’ at The Skiddaw Hotel on Monday the 14th and then meet Head Chef Dan Grimshaw at The Kings Arms Hotel on Wednesday 16th to make the perfect festive canapes.
There’s also a special preview of the Go Herdwick Calvert Trust Public Art Trail – when two of the decorated Herdwicks will make their debut at Treeby & Bolton. The Thwaites Shire Horses are coming to town and children can listen to the enchanting stories of The Snow Queen and The Stick Man.
The design of the illuminated windows is always kept secret, and rivalry is high for the best designed window – and this year this is heightened with a competition for the best window. Voting for the best window can be done on the Keswick Live Advent Facebook page.
