There is no way we could create a list of the most dog-friendly businesses in Keswick and not include the town’s very own independent pet store – Podgy Paws! You can get an idea of just how friendly this shop is from its name alone.
If you’re visiting the Lake District and want to get your dogs geared up for fell-top walks, make sure to pay Podgy Paws a visit and the team will find the most suitable products for your dogs needs.
They do personal harness fittings as well as stocking leads, collars, toys, coats, treats plus more.
There’s also a good chance that you will see Buddy when you visit. He’s Podgy Paws’ resident Ambassador!

The Back Bar
Located within Bell Close Car Park just off Keswick’s Market Square, The Back Bar is quite possibly the most dog-friendly pub in the whole of the town.
Dogs will always receive a warm welcome and plenty of fuss as soon as they step into this pub and there are permanently dog biscuits on hand especially for those occasions.
The Back Bar serves a range of wholesome bar meals that hit the spot and is fully equipped with plasma screen TVs to show all major sporting games. There is also an outdoor beer garden out the front that gets the sunshine all day long.
Keswick Launch Company
The Keswick Launch is Keswick’s lake cruise company where guests can step aboard and enjoy views of Catbells, Skiddaw, Walla Crag plus more all from the ripples of Derwentwater!
The best part? These lake cruises are completely dog friendly so you can bring your pooch on board as well. Now, how often do you get to take your dog on a boat?!

If you’re looking for a cosy dog-friendly pub in the Lake District which is renowned for its hearty grub and friendly service, the Kings Arms Hotels in Keswick is the place for you
The Kings Arms is famous for its dog-friendly nature and homemade Beef & Ale Pies! It is situated in the centre of Keswick and has a newly-refurbished beer garden so you and your pooch can enjoy pints al fresco following a long walk!
Originally a traditional coaching inn, the Kings Arms Hotel has 13 dog-friendly bedrooms, that are each unique and full of character. Dog beds and bowls can be provided upon request.

Keswick Boot Company
Another extremely dog-friendly company based in the town is the Keswick Boot Company. This walking store does exactly what is say on the tin – sells walking boots!
This is the place to visit if you’re looking for some suitable and sturdy boots to go dog-waking in the Lake District and they have plenty of treats for all dogs who visit the store.
As well as being highly dog-friendly, this local company also offers excellent service.
Skiddaw Hotel
Dog-owners have been visiting the Skiddaw Hotel for generations, and it comes as no surprise considering the warm welcome all dogs receive when they enter the building!
It’s hard to miss the Skiddaw Hotel when you step into Keswick’s Market Square as it’s the one with a sparkling conservatory on the outside which is the ideal hub to watch the world go by.
The lively conservatory and relaxed bar area are both dog friendly and are the only places in town where you can enjoy authentic Spanish tapas dishes alongside your pet!
The Skiddaw Hotel also does a mean Hikers Picnic Board for 2 people to share.
Inn on the Square
Although we have already mentioned The Back Bar as being one of the most dog-friendly pubs in Keswick, the main hotel which it is part of is also incredibly dog friendly – especially if you’ve got a posh pooch who enjoys a bit of pampering!
Known for its style, class and dog-friendly nature, the Inn on the Square is Keswick’s most chic hotel. Don’t be put off by the hotel’s fashionable appearance however, as dogs are not only welcome, but encouraged.
The hotel reception can provide you with dog towels if you ask and there is a designated seating area at the front of the award-winning Brossen Steakhouse for you to dine with your dog. Dogs are also permitted in the swanky Front Bar as well as in the majority of the bedrooms. Again, dog beds and bowls can be provided upon request.
