Now that we’re thoroughly into November (Hello snow, fresh mornings and winter sun!), we’re reminded quite bluntly that it’s winter. Now, Spring has sweetness, Summer has warmth and Autumn has colour, but winter has a few tricks up it’s own sleeve. Here at Lodore, we love a winter wedding, and so should you!
No. 1 – You will save money! Winter rates are generally a little cheaper than summer, so take advantage. You also won’t have to invest in too many decorations, as from early November, Lodore covers the outside and inside of the hotel with an abundance of Christmas decorations and thousands of twinkly lights. Festive or not, this will definitely make your wedding magical!
No. 2 – Carrying on from point 1, it’s Christmas! Tie in your wedding with yearly events, ranging from Halloween, Guy Fawkes Night, New Year and of course the big one, Christmas! Have an excuse to get your guests to wear fancy dress, hold a fireworks show to amaze family and friends or have Father Christmas come and meet the little (and big!) ones for a special touch to your big day.
No. 3 – Your photographs will be amazing. Incredible. Memorable. Whether it’s having fun dancing in the rain with wellies and umbrellas, competitive snowball fights against a backdrop of white laced mountains or sparklers dancing in the dark, there’s no other time of year when you will have so many dramatic and exciting options.
No. 4 – Think of the accessories; warm faux fur jackets for you and your bridesmaids, comfortable boots for all of your wedding party, bauble bouquets, sparkly icicle hair slides… The possibilities are endless! Keep the decorations to a minimal, white or ivory base so that your bouquets, cake, bridesmaids’ dresses and groomsmen’s suits brightly stand out.
No. 5 – More choice between suppliers – Generally, the most popular suppliers get booked up years in advanced during the summer. You have a better chance of grabbing your favourite photographer, cake maker and florist in the quieter winter months.
No. 6 – Winter sun – Just think of your honeymoon, jetting off into the sunset only to find yourself landing in a warm country, sunbathing whilst the rest of us are putting the central heating on. Come back with a golden tan to make everyone around you super jealous, as well as treating yourself to glowing skin to show off at Christmas and New Year parties.
There are so many reasons to book a winter wedding at the Lodore, they don’t just stop with the above. The drive through to Borrowdale is so scenic during the colder months, Catbells and Skiddaw are a hugely dramatic backdrop and there’s every opportunity to be creative. Don’t just stop with decorations, offer your guests an alternative welcome drink of a boozy hot chocolate and sit them down by one of our welcoming fireplaces. With all these ideas and more, Lodore is the perfect venue for your incredible winter wonderland!
