After a £600,000 development, the 4-star Inn on the Lake hotel based in Glenridding has open its extravagant new 75m lakeside terrace to critical acclaim!
Known for its seamless lakeside location, the family-owned hotel closed its existing terrace at the beginning of 2023 to pave the way for an upscale al fresco dining area shrouded with Lake District charm.
Over the course of 4-months, the existing land was excavated and transformed into a beautiful new 75m long terrace equipped with slate walls and intricate stonework detail, as well as a wooden pergola that frames guests’ view of Ullswater with thanks to Cumbrian groundwork firm, O’Malley.

The slate walls have been meticulously placed to break up the terrace into various seating areas, creating a relaxed feel; with some wall complexes actually incorporating bespoke seating into their design.

To perfect the finished look, all slate was sourced locally from Honister Slate Mine; including over 90 tonnes of walling stone and 200 linear metres of coping stones. Guests have described the space as having almost a Tuscan feel due to its extensive stonework and detail.
The hotel has also invested in a selection of attractive pots, plants and shrubbery to add some extra warmth and colour to the already bright space. Automated electric doors have also been integrated into the building enabling guests a seamless exit from the bar onto the new outdoor space which is fully wheelchair accessible.
To finalize the grand project, new, state-of-the-art outdoor furniture was implemented to really modernize the space and further magnify that feeling of being abroad. Seating is available for over 90 guests, making it one of the largest outdoor terraces in the Lake District.

The lakeshore hotel offers four different entrances onto the large terrace – one from the Lake View Restaurant, one from the private hire Glenridding Suite, another from the stylish bar area and a final door extends out from the panoramic Orangery.
To commemorate the project’s completion, a new outdoor dining menu was launched. The exclusive al fresco menu features a selection of mezze boards, flatbreads, deli style sandwiches, salads plus nibbles perfect for sunny days by the lakeshore.
A completely novel addition to the menu is a selection of indulgent flavoured milkshakes, each made with local ice-cream and cow’s milk.
