Lodore Falls honoured at the Northern Design Awards
It was a momentous day for the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa design team on Friday 15th November, when the team were proudly awarded with the Landscaping Design & Installation Award for our stunning new gardens!
The prestigious award was presented to the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa at the 17th annual Northern Design Awards held in Manchester that honour the best of design and architecture in the North of the country.
The respected event recognises any commercial, communal or public space that spearheads design, originality, practicality and with sustainability in mind.
Hundreds of the North’s leading designers, developers, architects, movers and shakers attended the event to have their achievements marked at the glittering ceremony at the stunning Principal Hotel – and our team were among them!
“We are over the moon to have received this accolade. I’d like to express our gratitude to our Design Team: Bruce Walker our landscape architect from Westwood Landscape, Unwin Jones Partnership, our architects and Greyline Design, our interior designer for nominations in the following five categories; Amazing Space; Commercial Build; Hotel Interior Design; Landscaping Design and Installation and Restaurant and Bar > £750k. I’d also like to thank Jez Marvin our architect for entering the Lodore Falls into the awards.” – Dani Hope, Director of Lake District Hotels
A powerful comeback
As we were awarded with such a prestigious award, we took the time to reflect back on how far we’ve come to get to this stage.
As many of you will know, the Lodore Falls Hotel gardens were completely devastated by the infamous Lake District flooding of December 2015. The hotel grounds were predominantly affected when nearby Watendlath Beck burst its banks.
At the time, plans were already in place for the new Falls Spa complex, restaurant and bedroom development, with the intention of allowing guests to get the most out of the hotel’s breathtaking location which overlooks Derwentwater and the Cat Bells mountain range.
The revolutionary £13 million development began way back in 2016, and was marked as complete by the official opening of the new spa gardens in September 2019.
“I am delighted that our design and implementation work has been recognised with this award. The landscape design is the result of a strong partnership with the architect and our client who had the commitment to develop the gardens to compliment the high-quality building. A great result for the whole team!” – Bruce Walker, Landscape Architect from Westwood Landscape Ltd
The new and improved Lodore
The Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa is now a world class facility that gives guests a true Lake District experience that blends luxury, relaxation and superb dining options. The Falls Spa piece de resistance is our outdoor 16m infinity edge vitality pool overlooking the lake and mountains which is already becoming a “bucket list” experience.
“Unwin Jones Partnership are delighted that the Lodore Falls and Spa project was recognised with 5 nominations and a win in the Landscape Design category at the recent Northern Design Awards. Nominations for architecture, interior design and landscape design illustrate that project excelled in all aspects and reflect what a fantastic team effort it was from all involved in what was a challenging project. The amazing results are testament to the strong vision for the site from Lake District Hotels and their continual pursuit of excellence and the fantastic contribution of the whole design and construction team. Bruce Walker of Westwood Landscape has produced truly stunning gardens with Greyline Design creating beautiful interiors. Unwin Jones are very proud to have been involved and it is fantastic to see people using and loving the finished product.” – Jez Marvin, Unwin Jones Architects
