World Heritage fame followed by an array of NEW delights for 2018

In July 2017, the Lake District National Park joined the likes of the Taj Mahal and the Great Wall of China to become the UK’s first national park to be granted a world heritage site, one of the highest accolades on the planet. There’s never been a better time to come and experience the Lake District’s famous landscape of mountains, valleys and lakes for yourself. On top of this, the Lake District has an array of new delights for 2018 – read on to find out more!

A Sea of Poppies: Weeping Window is coming to Carlisle

A sweeping arch filled with thousands of bright red ceramic poppies will be unveiled at Carlisle Castle this year. The sculpture by artist Paul Cummins and designer Tom Piper, originally went on show at the Tower of London to commemorate every British or Colonial life lost at the front during the First World War. From 23rd May – 8th July 2018 the iconic display will cascade from the top of Carlisle Castle in breath-taking fashion.

The flavour of Pan Asian

A fusion of cuisines from across Asia, Mizu offers an amazing culinary experience with the freshest ingredients and a relaxed approach to dining. Brand-new for May 2018, the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa opens a new 70 seater Pan Asian restaurant, which features an open kitchen, chic cocktail bar and a riverside terrace for an al fresco experience. Our menus will be filled with delectable dishes to tempt your taste buds. Think Sushi, Thai curries and Teppanyaki bursting with bold flavours and vibrant colours. Opening 11th May 2018!

We have lift off!

Getting to the Lake District is about to become even easier as Carlisle Lake District Airport re-opens to commercial airlines for the first time in 25 years. Until now, it has been primarily used for flight training or local sightseeing tours, but from the 4th June 2018 it will be connected to hubs in London, Dublin and Belfast, with Scottish airline Loganair. It’s just a 50 minute drive to Keswick & Ullswater.
