Seven Nocturnal Rainbows for the English Lakes… The brainchild of renowned contemporary artist Charles Monkhouse, Seven Nocturnal Rainbows is an elaborate art installation taking place on seven nights throughout the Lake District, visiting Glenridding from 3rd – 4th May on the Glencoyne Bay in Ullswater.
This year’s World Tapir Day on Wednesday (27th April) is an extra special celebration at the Lake District Wildlife Park (LDWLP) near Keswick. The park has a family of four Brazilian Tapirs, one of which is set to jet off to foreign climes. The LDWLP celebrates World Tapir Day every year, but now the breeding pair has successfully reared two calves, it’s the first time there is a family of four to share the day with visitors. It’s also a last chance to see Alvez, (the first calf), because he’s set to travel overseas to start a family of his own.

While the Queen’s actual birthday is today (21st April), the celebrations for her 90th will take place on 12th to 15th May on private grounds at Windsor Castle, followed with a huge street party on The Mall to mark her official birthday falling on the 12th June. It’s expected that 10,000 guests will attend, including the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince William and Prince Harry.
The Ullswater Way is a new 20 mile walking route around what many believe to be England’s most beautiful lake in the Lake District. The new route is being officially opened by Eric Robson on Monday 25th April, the walkway uses existing public rights of way and quiet roads around Ullswater, aimed at encouraging walkers to enjoy the valley, appreciate the spectacular scenery and support local businesses.

Businesses in the Ullswater Valley have come together to celebrate the humble daffodil and the rejuvenation of the valley after Storm Desmond. Masterminded by the members of the Ullswater Association, Daff Fest has been running from Monday 28th March and will continue right through till Sunday 17th April. Daff Fest is a colourful series of events around the Ullswater Valley that invites everyone, both young and old, to delight in daffodils and enjoy spring time just as our local literary greats once did.
At the beginning of 2016, we announced our nominated ‘Charity of the Year 2016’. We have various fundraising events planned to run throughout the year to raise funds for our chosen charity; Amy’s Care. Based in Cumbria, Amy’s Care provides social clubs, holidays and specialist care for older adults, mainly aimed at people living with dementia.
