Whilst more than 20,000 worshipers, revellers and curious visitors made their way to Stonehenge for the Summer Solstice, a group from Lake District Hotels had a more intimate affair at one of the most stunning stone circle locations in the country.
On Thursday 18th June the Inn on the Lake in Ullswater hosted a fabulous Royal Ascot Ladies Race Day in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance. 90 glamorous ladies travelled from as far as Scarborough, Newcastle, Carlisle and various other parts of Cumbria to take their seats in the “Royal Enclosure” for a live television transmission of one of the most popular events of the summer’s social calendar.

Each year the summer solstice rises upon us to mark the first day of the summer season in the Northern Hemisphere. Known for being well celebrated at the famous Stonehenge, it has become somewhat overcrowded with around 20,000 people each year, however make your way up to the Castlerigg Stone Circle in Keswick and you will be greeted by a more intimate crowd of a few hundred or so people, patiently waiting for the sun to rise up over Blencathra.

If you are looking for that perfect main course, that’s nice and easy but really scrummy, then this is your dish. Irish sea mussels, shallot and cider broth suits both the Summer and Winter season and is perfect if you are throwing a dinner party and really want to impress your guests.
The Kings Arms Hotel in Keswick held a fabulous ‘Welcome to Summer Launch Event’ on Wednesday 27th May, where local guests, suppliers and B&B owners were invited to enjoy a drinks reception and mouth-watering canapés, to showcase the Kings Arms new Summer menu, designed by Head Chef Dan Grimshaw.

Well-known Keswick couple Malcolm and Joan Craghill celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last Friday. The couple were married on 15th May 1965 at Crosthwaite Church, Keswick and then held their wedding reception at the Skiddaw Hotel, which was the first wedding reception to be held at the hotel.
