New for 2018: Four of our brand-new suites are now open and the feedback that we have received from our guests has been amazing. Johnny Vegas has just enjoyed a stay at the George Hotel in Penrith with his Mum, after check out Johnny tweeted saying, “What a lovely overnight stay at The George Hotel. Students from Keswick School proved they had excellent taste when it came to submitting their sandwich recipes into our ‘Design a Sandwich’ competition. We have been working closely with Keswick School throughout 2018 to raise funds to improve their food technology kitchen, kick starting our fundraising activities by involving the students in an exclusive competition.
Getting to the Lake District is about to become even easier as Carlisle Lake District Airport re-opens to commercial airlines for the first time in 25 years. Until now, it has been primarily used for flight training or local sightseeing tours, but from the 3rd September 2018 it will be connected to hubs in London, Dublin and Belfast with Scottish airline Loganair.
Fewer than 40% of British children can cook five savoury dishes before they leave school, a survey by the Sunday Times found, so this year we plan to inspire young children to cook and find chef’s of the future by raising money to upgrade the food technology facilities at Keswick School.
Sourcing good, reliable chefs has always been a battle within the hospitality industry, it’s a challenging occupation with high staff turnover and a shortage of talented young chefs on the horizon. According to the skills development agency ‘People 1st’ 51% of catering colleges have seen enrolments drop, in an industry which, by 2020, will need a predicted 11,000 new chefs.
