Once all the Christmas and New Year festivities are out the way and we all need a little time to relax, we’re sending in a team of professional dream-makers who are going to give the Keswick town-centre hotel a complete makeover to reveal a swanky, new Skiddaw unlike ever seen before.
The plans are going to completely transform the traditional Skiddaw Hotel into a contemporary, elegant hub; suitable for plush Lake District country retreats, relaxed dining with friends or even just as the new in-place to go for a post-work drink. The focus of the new refurbishment is to increase light throughout the ground floor.

Although the Skiddaw Hotel is getting this lavish ground-floor overhaul, we will still maintain our traditional community values and friendly customer service; continuing to welcome our regular guests in many years to come.
The modernisation project follows on from the previous work that completely revamped the Greta Suite, bringing the whole of the ground-floor in unison by Spring 2020.
The 19th century hotel has been known as the Skiddaw Hotel since 1869 and has been a member of the Lake District Hotels group since 1995.
Classy colours
The modern look of the hotel is going to feature flattering neutral tones, nicely complemented with sporadic traces of stylish teal shades.
This will be implemented through the introduction of chic carpets, wallpapers, curtains, tiles and wooden floorboards, using only the highest quality interior products.
The idea is to give the hotel a clean, contemporary look that screams sophistication and encourages a tranquil state-of-mind for guests. The new interior will dazzle on even the gloomiest of Lake District days.
Fashionable furnishings
As well as unveiling a trendy, new colour scheme for the hotel, we’ve scouted only the finest furnishings to further enhance the new appearance and guest experience.
Expect inviting chairs and seating areas that will allure you inside from Keswick’s Market Square. These will be coupled with fashionable light fittings and wall lamps that boast incredible patterns, each intended to brighten up the whole environment and add charm.
The new tables that have been specifically chosen each for the conservatory, restaurant and bar area have each been carefully selected for both their purpose and style, further adding to the hotel’s contemporary, new demeanour.
Skiddaw refurbishment dates
The hotel will be closed from 6th – 21st January for the Skiddaw refurbishment project to take place.
Please note, the Skiddaw elevator will also be out of action from 6th January – 29th February, even once the hotel has reopened to the public.
The Restaurant will be closed from 23rd January – mid February. During this period dinner will be served in the already refurbished Greta Suite.
