Lake District Hotels summer solstice event continues to grow in popularity

Lake District Hotels celebrate the 2016 Summer Solstice

The summer solstice has been celebrated for centuries; each year 1000’s of worshipers, revellers and curious visitors make their way to prehistoric monuments, such as Stonehenge and Castlerigg Stone Circle to celebrate the longest day of the year.

Each year Lake District Hotels offer our Summer Solstice break, which combines the summer solstice celebrations with a two night dinner, bed & breakfast stay, offering our guests a unique break in the Lakes. For a third consecutive year Lake District Hotels have led a group of visitors on our annual guided walk, from the Lodore Falls Hotel & Borrowdale Hotel in the pretty Borrowdale Valley, the Inn on the Square, Skiddaw Hotel and Kings Arms Hotel in Keswick.

3.00am start from Keswick town centre

The group of 31 visitors traveled from as far as Newcastle, Chorley and Essex to join our sunrise walk, which started at 3.00am, from Keswick’s Market Square on Monday 20th June. The group was led by Leah Davies (Marketing & Events Manager for Lake District Hotels), Dani Hope (Marketing Director for Lake District Hotels) and our very own Druid, Gillian Kavanagh (Druid & Member of OBOD). Once at the Stone Circle, Gillian carried out the following rituals ‘Dawn Ceremony of Alban Hefin’ and ‘The Summer Solstice Dawn Ceremony’ which allowed all 31 members and various party-goers to join in, afterwards a hot breakfast was enjoyed by the group.

Leah Davies, Marketing & Events Manager of Lake District Hotels Ltd, said “Our annual guided walk allows visitors to see the Lake District in a different light and gives them the opportunity to join in and be part of the ceremony. This is the third year that we’ve run the event and it keeps growing in popularity. I’ve already got my fingers crossed for nice weather for the 2017 Summer Solstice.”
