Guess the weight to win a free stay at the Lodore Falls Hotel
Festive parlour games, singing carols, opening an advent calendar and getting dressed up for Christmas dinner are among a group of Christmas traditions which many of us do each year. More traditionally, on the stroke of midnight on New Year’s Eve, many people have been known to open the back door to let the old year out.
For the Lodore Falls Hotel it has become a festive tradition to produce a towering gingerbread house, which is then knocked to pieces on New Year’s Day by children staying at the hotel – a tradition which is now firmly embedded in our New Year celebrations.
For the last 13 years, Head Chef Shane Hamilton, has produced the towering gingerbread house, which is a replica of the Lodore. Shane spends hours building the house, and each year it gets bigger and better than the year before. It features stained sugar windows and real working lights, all of which are edible (except the lights), it is then displayed in the hotel’s lobby for all to see.
