The Borrowdale Hotel Named as a Finalist in the 2024 Cumbria Tourism Awards

Lake District Hotels is proud to announce that the 4-star Borrowdale Hotel has been named as a finalist for the prestigious Cumbria Tourism Awards 2024 under the ‘Large Hotel of the Year’ category.

In 2023, the hotel underwent a transformative ground floor refurbishment, amounting to over £1 million. This gave these spaces a contemporary update, flawlessly blending modern amenities with the hotel’s existing historic allure. Notable enhancements include the addition of private balconies to select bedrooms, offering guests stunning vistas of the surrounding fells. Furthermore, the hotel unveiled a state-of-the-art kitchen equipped with cutting-edge appliances and sustainable technologies.

You will find this countryside hotel amid the breathtaking landscapes that give the Lake District its fame. The hotel boasts a rich heritage dating all the way back to 1866 and has been long celebrated for its exceptional service and timeless charm.

Whilst dining at the Borrowdale Hotel has always been a spectacular experience, something (or someone) was needed to give the kitchen an invigorating new update. Hence…the appointment of Tristan Prudden, our Gordon Ramsay-trained Head Chef renowned for his expertise in game cuisine. With accolades including a prestigious Cordon Bleu Diploma and winner of ‘Champion of Champions’ at the 2018 Eat Game Awards, Chef Prudden brings a wealth of experience and innovation to the hotel’s dining offerings.

“We are delighted to welcome Chef Prudden to our team. His culinary prowess and dedication to excellence perfectly align with our commitment to providing guests with an unforgettable experience.” remarked Dani Hope, Director of Lake District Hotels.

The Borrowdale Hotel offers an array of amenities that capture the essence of luxury and relaxation. Guests can indulge in a sumptuous Sunday Lunch with a selection of succulent meats carved at the table and served from the hotel’s iconic silver service carving trolley, so customers can truly feel immersed in tradition as they tuck into a hearty meal. The restaurant is home to an impressive walk-in wine cellar and tasting room that showcases a curated selection of over 175 wines and champagnes. You can also delight in a delectable afternoon tea brimmed with tasty treats, both savoury and sweet.

Beyond its physical offerings, the Borrowdale Hotel takes pride in its exceptional team members who are loved by local regulars and visiting guests alike. Many of our staff members have dedicated decades to the Lake District Hotels Group, showing that the hotel fosters a culture of longevity and excellence. You might have come across employees such as Maria, Caylah, Cath, Emre (to name just a few!) who are all dedicated to ensuring that your visit to the Borrowdale Hotel is seamless and enjoyable.

“We are honoured to be recognised among the best in Cumbria’s vibrant tourism industry,” said Maria Quigley, General Manager of the Borrowdale Hotel. “This nomination is a testament to the dedication of our team and the ongoing appeal of the Borrowdale Hotel as a leading destination in the Lake District.”

The Borrowdale Hotel is eagerly awaiting the outcome of the upcoming Cumbria Tourism Awards. As all finalists brace themselves, they gear up for another round of rigorous judging. The winners in each category will be unveiled during an elegant black-tie affair on for Tuesday 2nd July in Kendal.
