We had a fantastic time and was well looked after by all of the staff. We could not have asked for more or been treated better Mr and Mrs Butlers

Christmas Eve

Take time to settle into your warm, welcoming room before joining us for mulled wine and mince pies in the comfortable lounges. Later on, join our General Manager and his team for a sparkling cocktail and canapés reception, as he takes the opportunity to tell you about the coming day’s events and entertainment. Following this, an exquisite candlelit dinner will be served in the beautifully decorated Georgian Ballroom.

After dinner, relax in our lounges with coffee and petit fours. As the midnight hour approaches, wrap up warm for an escorted trip to St Andrew’s Church (just a short walk from the hotel) for Midnight Mass, returning to the George Hotel for hot chocolate with a dash of rum and toasted marshmallows.

Christmas Day

reakfast on Christmas Day is a leisurely affair. Start your day with a traditional Cumbrian breakfast and add a bit of sparkle with a glass of Bucks Fizz. Relax and enjoy your morning and look out for Santa. If you feel like fresh air is on the agenda, don your boots and enjoy a walk from our very own walking book, taking you to panoramic vistas of the stunning Eden valley.

After the Lakeland air has stimulated your appetite, it will be time to meet in the lounges for bubbly and canapés before your sumptuous 6 course Christmas Day lunch is served in the magnificent Ballroom, followed by coffee and Christmas cake with the Queen’s speech at 3pm.

Following a leisurely afternoon, join us later in the evening for a fabulous ‘Taste of the Lakes and Fells’ buffet, providing the perfect opportunity for you to taste some traditional Cumbrian specialities, prepared by our Head Chef and his team. With relaxation in mind our entertaining Christmas quiz, with prizes to be won, begins to round off a very special day.

Boxing Day

After a hearty Cumbrian breakfast, relax and enjoy the morning at your leisure whether it be ambling around the shops (plus spending in the sales!), taking a leisurely stroll, or joining our Christmas treasure hunt around Penrith’s town centre. Once back at the hotel, a light lunch will be served before boarding our private coach for a scenic drive (approx. 20 minutes) to the pretty village of Glenridding.* Here you can sail away on the Ullswater Steamers (weather permitting), where you can admire the beautiful scenery, as you gently cruise along the lake, whilst we serve you a glass of hot mulled wine and mince pies.

On return to the hotel, tea & hot crumpets with Cumberland rum butter await you while you take some time to relax by the open fires. We end the day with a fantastic four course farewell candlelit dinner followed by a fun game of bingo with prizes.

The George was incredible and second to none. The food was very lovely and never a lack of it. Would recommend this hotel to any who would listen! Mrs Erica
