The Lake District Wildlife Park near Keswick is proud to announce the birth of a tiny Brazilian Tapir (Tapirus Terrestris). Breeding Tapirs in captivity is difficult, but the park has managed to rear two babies in two years. This second tiny tot is now younger brother to Alves, born in September 2013. After a shaky start, he is now venturing out to explore more of his home.
Friday 25th September saw the first charity event hosted by Glenridding Sailing Centre in support of CFM’s Cash For Kids, raising money for local disadvantaged and disabled children. The event was named after the charity‘s cheeky cat mascot ‘Courage The Cat’s Canoeathon Challenge’. The two teams were from Mercedes Benz in Carlisle, and the Inn on the Lake Hotel on Ullswater.
Back by popular demand… Opera d’Amici will be returning to the George Hotel in Penrith, on Saturday 17th October, to perform a selection of arias and duets from the most popular and well-loved operas and musicals. Opera d’Amici is made up of two main artists, John & Hannah, and their pianist Peter. John, a Lancastrian, has a busy career both in Opera and concerts, his opera performances have taken him to Europe, the USA and Russia with English National Opera and Opera North. He has most recently appeared as a guest principal at The Royal Opera House, for whom he has performed many roles.

The ‘Walk of Britain’ team visited Keswick last week, as part of their 1,000 mile expedition between Scotland and England. The aim of the walk, is to help raise money and awareness for Walking with the Wounded, a charity set up to retrain and re-skill the wounded and support them in finding new careers outside the Military.
We were happy to see Julia Bradbury checking in to the Inn on the Square on Monday, whilst she was in the area filming her new TV series, ‘The 8 Bradbury’s Best Walks’ which will be on ITV early 2016. Julia is a big fan of the Lake District and has become one of our most popular on-screen faces appearing in programs like Wainwrights Walks, The Wonder of Britain and Countryfile.
