Whether you’re a dog lover or sun worshipper the weekend of 20th / 21st June is set to divide the crowds. Each year the summer solstice rises upon us to mark the first day of the summer season in the Northern Hemisphere. Known for being well celebrated at the famous Stonehenge, it has become somewhat overcrowded with around 20,000 people each year, however make your way up to the Castlerigg Stone Circle in Keswick and you will be greeted by a more intimate crowd of a few hundred or so people, patiently waiting for the sun to rise up over Blencathra.

Well-known Keswick couple Malcolm and Joan Craghill celebrated their golden wedding anniversary last Friday. The couple were married on 15th May 1965 at Crosthwaite Church, Keswick and then held their wedding reception at the Skiddaw Hotel, which was the first wedding reception to be held at the hotel.

The Skiddaw Hotel hosted a fairytale afternoon tea party on Bank Holiday Monday with Frozen’s Princess Elsa. There was a fabulous turn out for the event, with 35 excited youngsters and not to mention 20 just as excited Mum’s and Dad’s.
