Celebrating Cumbrian ‘Gin on the Square’

Throughout the month of January we invited different local gin distilleries to join us each Thursday at the Inn on the Square in Keswick to showcase the best of Cumbrian gin!

The gin distilling industry has experienced a huge boom in recent years and we are proud to have some of the finest British gin distilleries nearby in the beautiful English Lake District.

To celebrate these thriving local gin distilleries and allow more people to discover their existence, we thought it was only appropriate to invite them to the 4-star hotel to showcase their stock.

The Inn on the Square proudly boasts a swanky cocktail bar home to over 40 different gins, and it seems fitting to have our favourite Cumbrian gins at the forefront.  When it comes to expanding your gin knowledge, the Inn on the Square is the place to go.

1)     Wolftown Gin

First up was Wolftown Gin who are based in Ulverston. We were joined by John McKeown on Thursday 13th January to not only educate us about his up-and-coming distillery, but he announced the launch of their brand-new gin – Wolftown Citrus Gin – which our guests were lucky enough to sample before it hits stores!

This citrus-led gin is best served with a classic Indian tonic water and a sprig of Rosemary.

Their original award winning Wolftown Signature Gin is silky enough to sip on its own, but for a longer drink experience, John recommends serving with Fever Tree Aromatic or Lixir Blood Orange and Cinnamon Tonic.

2)     Shed 1 Gin

Second to the post was another Ulverston-based gin distillery who have managed to successfully produce seven gins in the space of 6 years, from ‘Cuckold’s Revenge‘ to ‘Fancy Frolic’. The distillery have also produced two gin elixirs.

To flaunt their impressive selection of spirits we were joined by Andy Arnold-Bennett, the mastermind ‘actor-turned-distiller’ behind the brand who set up the Shed with the help of his wife, Zoe. The pop-up took place on Thursday 20th January.

They also exhibited a new gin-creation from the Shed entitled ‘Chuckle Berry’ which our guests were lucky enough to sample at no cost.
