Keswick’s Got Talent Competition

Do you have what it takes? An exciting new talent show ‘Keswick’s Got Talent’ is about to kick off the New Year and applications are now being invited to take part, from entertainers of all ages and in all categories, covering dance, music (groups or individuals) and comedy.

The auditions will all be held in The Loft Nightclub on Sunday afternoons from the 14th January and will conclude with two special cabaret-style events on 2nd & 3rd March.

These events make up the ‘Keswick Bash’ with the first event taking place in in the Greta suite at the Skiddaw Hotel, consisting of a sit down meal and entertainment provided in cabaret form by the finalists for ‘Keswick’s Got Talent’. The second event, a little less formal, will be held in The Loft Nightclub and will also double up as the finals night for Keswick’s Got Talent, complete with a panel of judges.

These events are being organised by the town’s cricket club, working with Chinty on the project are committee members Sharon Hodgson, Rebecca Link and club chairman Keith Richardson. While people of all ages are invited to apply, children must be over the age of 11, please e-mail any enquiries to keswickbash@gmail.com

Chinty Turnbull, who heads up the women’s squad at Keswick Cricket Club, hit upon the idea when she saw old photographs of major dance events that once took place on the former pavilion dance floor situated off Station Road, now Riverside Lodge.

“It struck me on looking at the images that it would be great to resurrect a modern day version of a big annual do for locals,” said Chinty,“ and that it would be great if we could hold this together with an event that would showcase local talent.

“The finalists from Keswick’s Got Talent will provide the entertainment in the form of a cabaret at the Keswick Bash and we want the finals to a have a distinctly night clubby feel, all glitzy and attractive.

“A lot of what happens in Keswick and area these days is, quite understandably, geared towards providing leisure activities for visitors and I thought it would be amazing to do something that was aimed principally – but not exclusively – at the local communities.”

There will be prizes for the winners of the talent competition and all proceeds from the event will go to Keswick Cricket Club and the continued recovery of its ground in Fitz Park from the effects of Storm Desmond. Lake District Hotels are the principal sponsor of the cricket club.
