REVIEW… Mizu Pan Asian Restaurant

IN THE PRESS… We have received this lovely review for our brand-new Pan Asian restaurant, Mizu and wanted to share it with our readers…

“With its fabulous location, 4 miles outside of Keswick and Derwentwater just a short stroll from the front door, we’ve been regular visitors to the Lodore Falls Hotel for a number of years now and I was extremely happy to hear the news that their brand-new Pan Asian restaurant, Mizu had opened.

My partner and I have watched their development grow over the course of 15 months, with the refurbishment of the main hotel, the new suites and of course Mizu, we couldn’t wait to try the finished product and we’re just as excited for the new spa to be revealed later in the year.

We dined at Mizu on a Friday evening, the staff were all very lovely and also very knowledgeable of the menu, considering they had only been open a couple of weeks. There is a choice of menus to choose from which include a selection of Japanese, Korean, Malaysian and Thai specialities; you can dine from the main menu or sample all the best bits of Mizu with their 6-course taster menu. If you dine through the day there is also a set 2 or 3 course lunch menu to pick from.

The restaurant itself has a relaxed ambience with floor-to-ceiling windows looking out to the waterfall and an open view into the kitchen, where you can watch the chefs preparing the food. There is also a fantastic selection of drinks behind the bar including a variety of sakes, but I was extremely happy to see they stocked my favourite rhubarb and ginger gin, while my partner enjoyed his first ever Japanese beer, a pint of Kirin.

We decided to start with the chef’s sushi selection, which looked almost too good to eat, followed by a selection of sticks including the ginger and garlic sticky pork belly, miso-grilled aubergine and the crispy shrimp. Next I chose a huge bowl of chicken ramen complete with a delicious tea-stained egg and my partner had the Thai green cod with a side of sticky rice – the flavours were so fresh and brought back memories of backpacking around Asia! With full bellies we still managed dessert; green tea & passion fruit mousse with matcha sponge. And the chocolate lava cake is to die for, which comes with Japanese Umeshu hot chocolate sauce, pistachio and vanilla ice cream.

A visit to Mizu is an experience in itself, I can’t wait to return and I’ll keep my fingers crossed for a sunny day so that I can sit outside on the riverside terrace with a glass of wine, selection of sushi, and enjoy the views. From the terrace you can even see the hotels famous waterfall, which I believe is where the restaurant’s name came from – Mizu from the Japanese meaning of falling water.”
