  • The ‘early bird’

Pot roasted cod, roasted thyme roots and potatoes, buttered spinach, balsamic fish jus

This wholesome meal not only tastes great, but is packed full of Omega 3 which has been associated with increased sleep duration.

We recommend this dish for anyone who tends to wake up early and struggle to get back to sleep.

  • The ‘land of nod’

Todd Hills Hall Farm 3 hen’s egg glazed omelette, baby spinach, glazed with Appleby creamery vintage cheese, Edan Valley Smokery smoked haddock

The haddock that makes up this dish is an excellent source of magnesium which reduces levels of the stress hormone, cortisol, in our blood streams. As a result, this relaxes our nervous system and promotes a better night’s sleep.

We recommend this dish for anyone who usually endures a restless night’s sleep as a result of nightmares and bad dreams.

  • The ‘sleep like a log’

Roasted red onion and olive hummus, sun blush tomatoes, grilled flat bread

Melatonin is one of the main hormones involved in the sleep induction process, known for regulating our sleep-wake cycle. The production of melatonin is aided by the amino acid tryptophan, which is regulated by the B Vitamins that are jam-packed into this tasty dish; helping you to get a better night’s sleep.

We recommend this dish for those who easily drift off, but find themselves waking up multiple times throughout the night.

  • The ‘rise and shine’

The Gourmet Vegan Pizza – spicy vegetarian pizza, black olives, jalapenos loaded with extra vegan cheese

Full to the brim with calcium and those B Vitamins that we have already established help induce a restful night’s sleep, this pizza delight also provokes the brain to produce higher levels of melatonin, resulting in a more controlled sleep-wake cycle.

We recommend this dish for any ‘night owls’ out there who struggle to get out of bed in the morning and could easy drop back to sleep.

The enigma of sleep

It’s quite astounding to know that in the UK, two thirds of the population regularly suffer from a disrupted night’s sleep. Some of these include cases of insomnia diagnoses, however many are people who naturally struggle to get more than 5 hours sleep each night for no apparent reason.

The optimum hours of sleep we need varies from person to person, with the general consensus being a minimum of 8-hours per night. In recent years, the quality of sleep we get has been strongly linked to our mental health, making it more important than ever before to get a good night’s sleep… but why do so many of us struggle?

“Sleep plays a crucial role in maintaining a healthy body and mind, but far too often it is being overlooked. With our research finding that the average person in the UK wakes up feeling tired four days of every week, it’s clear that we are in the middle of a sleeplessness epidemic, but for many of us, getting that elusive good night’s sleep can seem like an impossible task.” – Natalie Armstong, Sealy UK sleep expert
