Mr & Mrs Barry’s Inn on the Lake Wedding

On 10th May 2019, blissful bride Kay stepped out for her Inn on the Lake wedding, and ventured down the alter where the rest of her life awaited her. On this day she married her best friend Paul, which is when they became Mr & Mrs Barry.

We recently caught up with the couple to see how they’re finding married life, learn a bit more about the pair and to reflect back on their Inn on the Lake wedding.

If you would like your Inn on the Lake wedding to be featured on our blog, please email a range of high quality wedding photos and we will send you over a template to complete.

How did you meet?

We met in 2006 in our local hospital where we were both working at the time. We started dating in 2007 and have been together ever since, now making it 12 years in total.

How did Paul propose?

We went to Egypt in April 2014 for our yearly holiday and on one of the nights Paul suggested we should have a walk down to the beach. While there, he then suggested a romantic walk down the jetty to watch the sunset before our evening meal. We did this nearly every night on our holidays so I wasn’t suspicious in the slightest!

After the sunset we walked back up the jetty to the hotel and whilst walking, I noticed Paul wasn’t at the side of me (I never suspected anything to happen here either). When I turned around to find out where he was, he was down on one knee and uttered the magic words “Kay, will you marry me?”.

Naturally, I had a great response of “Yes, but really…me? Really?”. There were smiles all round and happy tears from me! We went back to the bar to celebrate and needless to say, we were suitably hungover the next day!

What did you do for your hen/stag parties?

Whilst Kay extended the celebrations for as long as possible and had multiple hen do’s, two small get-togethers with friends and one main one, the groom just had one big stag do.

For the stag do, Paul went to his first Barcelona home game at Camp Nou against Atlético Madrid. A few of his friends that couldn’t be there actually turned up and surprised him which was definitely a highlight!

Kay’s Hen Do was in Leeds, which consisted of a Beyoncé Dance Class, Afternoon Tea, Dreamboys and plenty of drinking.

Where was your wedding venue/reception held?

Both were held at the amazing Inn on the Lake, Ullswater.

What was your wedding theme?

The theme was modern rustic.

Where did you get your wedding dress?

My wedding dress was a Pronovias Dress which I purchased from EMMA Bridal in Liverpool.

Where was the Groom and Groomsmen’s attire from?

The Groom and Groomsmen suits were from Next as they were the perfect colour to match our theme. The ties and flowers were lovely shades of dusky pink.

Where were the Bridesmaid dresses from?

The Bridesmaid dresses were from 2 different websites.

I had 5 bridesmaids in total. The older 2 bridesmaid dresses were in the same style and colour purchased from ChiChi Clothing. The younger 3 bridesmaids were also in different styles and shades of pink, which were ordered online from JJ’s House.

We were able to have them made to measure.

Who supplied the flowers?

My flower bouquet, wooden flower box, flower girl wand, wrist corsages, centrepieces and button holes were from an amazing company called Cute as a Button.

I didn’t want real flowers as I wanted to keep some of the flowers in our home as a reminder of the wedding. They look just as good now as they did on our wedding day.

Did you wear any jewelry?

I bought some gorgeous diamond and pearl earrings from Swarovski as my something new. However, on the morning of my wedding, my groom-to-be surprised me with a Forever Diamond Necklace which I have never taken off since!

Who did your hair and makeup?

The bride and bridesmaids’ hair was done by Kay’s sister, Louise Kay Hair & Beauty, who is mobile and based in Cheshire.

My make-up was done by Keseme Goodwin, who we all know is THE BEST in the Lake District! She was definitely part of the family on the morning of the wedding, helping me into my wedding dress, removing stickers off shoes, helping the bridesmaids and performing last minute touch ups.

I really don’t know what I would have done without her!

What did you do for table settings and stationery?

I successfully managed to buy all the table accessories and ask the amazing Assistant Manager, Thomas, to follow my detailed drawings of where I would like things to be placed throughout the day.

My table chair covers and table runners were from The Memory Knot/SimplyBows.

We also had ceiling balloons, cluster balloons, starlight curtains and LOVE letters from The Memory Knot/Simply Bows. I phoned Jaimie up about a month before the wedding and said we want lots of balloons. She worked her magic and did not fail to deliver.

We also had a selfie mirror from The Photobooth Hire Cumbria. We originally had a photobooth but changed this to a selfie mirror last minute and I’m so glad we did. We managed to get more than 20 people in one picture with props, plus everyone LOVED it!

What was your wedding cake like?

My wedding cake, cupcakes and shortbread biscuits were all from Cutiepie Cake Company. They looked and tasted amazing – I never even got to try the chocolate cupcakes but the lemon ones were amazing!

What was your first dance song?

Our first dance was to ‘Perfect’ duet by Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé.

What did you have for entertainment?

For the ceremony and drinks reception we had the amazing and talented Alison Horn who is a harpist.

We also wanted a DJ and a Band since we were only getting married once. Naturally, there is only one DJ you book for weddings, and that is Simon from ALLSTAR Disco. He was amazing and definitely knows his stuff. There was no doubt in my mind he would create the outstanding atmosphere that he did and he was so approachable to all my family and friends. Even the kiddies ended up in the DJ booth!!

We hired a local band from where we live, Atlantic Sound. We went to see one of their gigs in our local bar in Barnsley and ended up booking them straight away – everyone loved them. Also, I think the song choices were a 10!

Who was your wedding photographer?

I feel like choosing the right photographer is the key to having a stress-free wedding day. We didn’t want a camera in our face 24/7 and someone instructing us where to stand. I wanted the photos captured to be completely natural.

Unfortunately, I missed Charlene of Beyond Imagination Photography at the previous Inn on the Lake Winter Wedding Fayre, but ended up looking at her photos online through the Inn on the Lakes Wedding Group on Facebook (if you haven’t yet – JOIN, you will find everything you need to know).

Charlene’s photos were creative, natural and exactly what we were looking for. We met Charlene a few months before the wedding to talk through final details and I knew she was the one for our Inn on the Lake wedding. She takes amazing photos and finds perfect little spots to hide herself in to capture the moment. I couldn’t wait to see our photos and we were very much spoilt for choice.

Any other comments?

I honestly can’t put into words what an amazing wedding day we had. The Inn on the Lake, Ullswater wedding venue is everything we dreamt of and more.

The staff – from reception all the way across to the Wedding Manager – were extremely friendly, helpful, down to earth, approachable and couldn’t do enough for you and your wedding party.

I honestly don’t like to ring receptions at hotels as I don’t want to bother them, but I was told on numerous occasions that if I needed anything just pick up the phone and ring – think they were regretting that decision after the fourth milk run!

I had zero worries on the day at all. Thomas, the Assistant Manager, handled everything perfectly. He is an expert and deserves a medal! I had a wobble on the morning once I had my dress on, but after being brought back down to earth by Keseme and Charlene, everything from that point onward went perfectly.

All in all, I would rate our experience nothing less than 5 star and have zero complaints!

Amazing staff and amazing venue. I can’t wait to come back next year for our anniversary to see everyone.
